Finishing Strong. Starting Stronger
How many different directions does 4th Quarter have your team running?
You're trying to finish the year strong, take care of customers, keep employees engaged, and handle everything that comes with the holiday season. At the same time, you're already thinking about next year. New goals. New opportunities. Maybe even a few things you want to do differently.
It's a busy time. But it's also one of the most important times of the year to be intentional about your marketing.
This is the fourth in our quarterly series about marketing for your business. Throughout this year, we've talked about building a strong foundation, increasing your visibility, and keeping your marketing momentum going. Now it's time to bring those efforts together, finish the year well, and put yourself in a good position for what's ahead.
A Little Appreciation Goes a Long Way
Your customers have choices. So do your employees. And while we sometimes get caught up in the daily demands of running a business, the end of the year, especially around Christmas, is a great time to remind people how much they matter.
A thoughtful gift to a customer doesn't have to be expensive or elaborate. In fact, something useful, personal, or unexpected often makes a bigger impression than something with a big price tag.
The same goes for employees. Whether it's a quality jacket, a branded piece of apparel, a holiday gift, or a simple gesture of thanks, recognizing the people who contribute to your success is always a worthwhile investment.
And don't forget about your community. Supporting a local charity, sponsoring a holiday event, or finding a way to give back can make a meaningful difference, both for the people you help and for the relationships you've built close to home.
Here's something worth remembering: The best appreciation/marketing efforts FEEL like appreciation. Don’t make them seem like marketing.
Pro tip: Start early. You’ll need a plan, and time to implement it. Branded merchandise, for instance, can be done fast, but it doesn’t happen overnight. You know Christmas is coming. Don’t put off the part where you give something great to people who mke a difference for you.
Don't Let Your Marketing Disappear During the Holidays
It's tempting to take your foot off the gas as the year winds down. After all, everyone's busy, schedules get complicated, and attention turns toward the holidays.
But your customers haven't stopped paying attention.
You don't necessarily need to launch a major campaign in November or December. You do need to stay visible and connected.
Here are some ideas for fourth quarter messaging: Share some of the good things your employees accomplished this year. Highlight a customer success story. Show how your business is involved in the community. Thank the people who have supported you.
Perhaps you have a little profit left over for something like a vehicle wrap that can pay dividends for many years to come.
And if there are products or services your customers might need before the end of the year, make sure they know about them.
The goal isn't to overwhelm people with promotions. There’s plenty of advertising going on this time of year. The goal is to stay present, relevant, and helpful.
You've spent the first three quarters building relationships and awareness. There's no reason to let that momentum fade simply because the calendar is running out.
Take a Good Look at the Year You're Finishing
Before you start making plans for next year, spend some time looking at this one.
What worked? What didn't? Where did your marketing efforts make a difference?
Maybe you attended a trade show that generated some promising leads. Maybe a particular piece of branded merchandise is getting worn more than others. Maybe a new product roll out opened up a new pathway to results that didn’t exist last year at this time. You can learn from these successes.
And maybe some things didn't work nearly as well as you'd hoped.
That's valuable information, too.
Take a look at your marketing expenses, the activities that generated customer interest, and the relationships that helped your business grow. Talk with your employees, especially those who interact with customers every day. They may have insights you haven't considered.
You don't need a complicated report to learn something useful. Sometimes a few honest conversations and a review of what you've done are enough to identify where you should focus your attention next.
Start Planning Next Year's Marketing Now
January is a great time to put a plan into action. A plan, mind you, that was developed in the 4th Quarter, not mid-January.
Think about what you want your business to accomplish next year. One good thought starter is the Bullseye 2026 First Quarter Marketing Guide. Talk about coming full circle!
Do you want to attract new customers? Strengthen relationships with existing ones? Improve employee retention? Expand into a new market? Build greater awareness of your brand?
Those are all worthwhile goals, but each requires a different approach.
Once you've identified your priorities, start thinking about the marketing activities that can help you accomplish them. Social media, customer communication, increased community involvement or a customer/employee appreciation program are all good channels to explore.
And yes, branded apparel and promotional products can be part of that strategy, too.
The point is to decide what you want to accomplish before you decide what you're going to buy. That takes some thought and creativity. Here at Bullseye Activewear and Promotions, those are two things we’re really good at! Not to mention the promotional products, screen printing and embroidery!
Good marketing starts with a goal, not a product. And it helps to have a partner to help put it all together.
Finish Strong. Start Stronger.
At Bullseye, we've spent nearly 35 years helping businesses make an impression through branded apparel, promotional products, and marketing solutions. We know that the most effective ideas are the ones that connect to a larger purpose.
Whether you're planning holiday appreciation gifts, preparing for next year's events, or looking for fresh ways to promote your business, we're happy to help you explore the possibilities.
Because the best way to finish the year is to finish strong and already running into the next.
