When you’re creating branded merchandise, there are a lot of questions to consider.

How many do you need? What budget can you spend? Perhaps most importantly, what do you want to give away in the first place? Mugs, koozies, blankets, shirts, sweaters, hats, bags? The options are endless.

First of all, don’t assume you know the answer. We can embroider logos and messages on almost anything. We’ve embroidered logos on golf bags, luggage, shoes, slippers, book bags, blankets, robes, socks, etc. It doesn’t just have to be a shirt or a hat.

So, you do have choices. Here are five things to consider to help decide which choice is right for you.

Look

Embroidery adds a high-quality look to merchandise. It conveys a sense of craftsmanship and attention to detail. Screen printing allows for vibrant and bold colors, making it suitable for colorful and creative messaging.

Budget

Screen printing is generally more cost-effective than embroidery, especially for large quantities and big designs. Cost really comes down to how long it takes to make an item. As true as ever, time is money.

Durability

Embroidery is highly durable and longer lasting, and can better withstand repeated washing and wear. Note: Screen printing can last long too if done correctly. Not all printers take the necessary steps to get a print and properly cure the inks.

Speed

Screen printing is a faster process, which can be important if you have tight deadlines for your giveaways or promotional events. Embroidery takes longer to complete due to the finishing of the product afterward. Things like removing the backing, steaming and removing the topping, trimming loose threads, etc. Doing it right can take time.

Quantity

Again, screen printing wins out here, based on budget and turnaround time. If you do want a lot of merchandise and want the professional look and durability of embroidery, just give yourself a little more time and prepare for the additional cost.
